Rehearsals on Saturday 27 and Sunday 28
A preview of the race
What a great idea! It came up to the minds of the organizers of the
Jacques Vabre Transatlantic race: offer a race before the real one and as soon as the first weekend, for the public often coming from far away on the occasion.
Even though the very presence of these race ships in the
bassin Paul Vatine is already a great show; it was indeed quite frustrating to see them set full sail only on the days of departure and only for a few minutes.
This year, all the inhabitants of Le Havre and all the visitors will be able to enjoy an amazing show in the “Baie de Seine”, off the “Cap de la Hève”, where the monohulls will sail from 2pm on Saturday 27 and the multihulls at the same time on Sunday 28 to win the trophee “Renault Laguna 3”.
Viva la capoeira!
This year, it is the school Berimbo de Ouro –from Le Havre- that will liven up the “village” day after day, thanks to danse shows (the ever so famous Capoeira), music shows and songs from Brazil. To be discovered every day around the “bassin Paul Vatine”.
Free gigs every night
Talents of Le Havre
We had no doubt that the inhabitants of Le Havre were talented, and this will be an occasion for the lovers of music and singing to prove this right by giving a show every night on stage in the “village” of the Transatlantic race and this all thanks to the initiative of the
City of Le Havre.
Thus, from Saturday 27 October to Thursday 1 November from 5pm, several bands –chosen by the “CEM”, “Jupo” and “Cabaret Electric”- will be giving a show in the “Pavillon des Docks” (the former Casino) and at the City’s stall. Full schedule to be discovered on the spot and in the local press.
And to end with a flourish that musical week full of notes of jazz and blues –among other things- a large gig will take place in the “Docks Océane” on Friday 2 November from 8:30pm until midnight, gathering together several bands from Le Havre.
To be discovered on stage: Yé Yé, Axe Riverboy, Elliott Murphy & The Normandy All Stars along with U Sound et Bobby Kinks. Free.
Friday 2 November, “Bassin Paul Vatine”
Hail to the skippers!
This is the brand new event of this 8th year of the
Jacques Vabre Transatlantic race. Until now, the introducing of the skippers was taking place on stage in the “Docks Océane” in front of an invited public of 3000 inhabitants of Le Havre. This year, the
City of Le Havre chose to make the most of the presence of an impressive fleet of ships in the “Bassin Paul Vatine” to bring out the 60 crews registered.
We can say without unveiling the whole idea that this event was inspired by the “Enchantment on water” show which took place seven years ago on the same spot; the Department of Great Events of City Hall will offer an amazing pyrotechnic show on water, blending sounds and lights with a jet-skiing ballet. An opportunity for everyone to see a unique event for free, where the stars will be the skippers.
“Tribute to Pink Floyd” gig
A magical moment…
Tribute gigs are back in fashion! Then, four rock musicians have decided to please themselves and a whole generation of fans with a tribute gig to Pink Floyd. The aim: offer the complete show, with the lights and sounds up to the challenge. A choir of children from Le Havre Music School will come on stage to perform Another Brick in the Wall, there will also be some special guests. The young artist Mary, folk guitarist and discovery of “Tremplin Music’ 76” will open the gig, brought to you by “Music’ 76” in partnership with the City of Le Havre and the “Docks Océane”. “Quadras”, a bunch of 50 year-old loving all music styles, just a piece of advice: don’t miss that gig!
Thursday 1 November at 8:30pm in the “Docks Océane”. Fare: €18

Priority: safety at sea
Helihoisting show
In order to reassert its will to make safety a priority for the skippers, “Pen Duick”, the society which organizes the race Le Havre – Salvador de Bahia, chose this as the main theme for the day of 31 October.
First of all in the morning, with a special briefing presented by the 24th and 32nd flotillas of the French Navy especially for the skippers. Just so you know, the men of the 32nd flotilla, based in Lanvéoc-Poulmic, watch the coasts, track down the polluting ships and rescue the sailors in difficulties under any weather condition.
Then, early in the afternoon, a forum for the general public on safety at sea will take place in the Docks, followed, around 4pm, by a demonstration of helihoisting in the “Bassin de l’Eure” thanks to a “Super Frelon” of the Air and sea forces helped by the crew of the “SNSM” (National Society of Sea Rescueing) motorboat.
31 October
“Zik’ O Docks”
4 artists, 5 hours of music for only €25: this is the new idea of the “Docks Océane” and the production company of Le Havre, Blue Koala, on the occasion of the
Jacques Vabre Transatlantic race.
Completely new in Le Havre, those gigs will be more and more numerous all along the 2007 / 2008 season, bringing forward a different musical style every time. For this first time in the Docks on 31 October, reggae and ska will be brought in the forefront with “Tiken Jah Fakoly” and “La Ruda” as leading bands. Two other bands are scheduled as well: “Bouddha Sticks” (Norman reggae) and “Procussions”, coming straight from Colorado.
Wednesday 31 from 6pm to midnight
Fare: €25. Tickets at the “Docks Café”, “Fnac” and “Auchan” and in the bar / restaurant “l’Eau Tarie”.
